Tunic M/1801 of private ski trooper. Reconstructed after an original musketeer tunic in the collection of "De Sandvigske samlinger" (Maihaugen) Lillehammer. The tunic is made of heavy dark green wool fabric with black facings edged with white. This was the only difference in the uniform of the conscripts versus the enlisted jaeger soldiers who didn't have this edging. The buttons are made of pewter, and on the left shoulder is a single shoulder strap with black body and white edging barely visible.
Rear wiew of the tunic. The waist belt is meant to rest on the two large pewter buttons. The two folds on the back are folds of the lining. The function is unknown, but most likely it is a remnant of the "tails" of 18th century coats.
The recreation of the tunic of Elverumske company encountered some difficulties. Modern fabrics are quite different from the coarse, low quality fabrics used by the army those days. The original tailoring was also quite rough.
